David Ortiz - DH - Boston Red Sox
DH David Ortiz and his intermittently sore left wrist appear to have benefited greatly from a day off over the weekend in Chicago as he hit .500 with three home runs, a double, seven runs scored and nine RBIs in the three games following his break. Ortiz has piled up 20 RBIs against the Rangers this season -- the highest total ever for a Sox player against Texas in a single season. Former OF Tony Conigliaro posted 22 RBIs against the Texas/Washington franchise in 18 games against the-then Washington Senators in 1970.

David Ortiz - DH - Boston Red Sox
DH David Ortiz became only the fourth player in franchise history to clock two home runs in the same inning when he launched a pair in the first inning. Big Papi was the first Sox slugger to do it since Nomar Garciaparra launched a pair of home runs in the third inning of a game July 23, 2002.

David Ortiz - DH - Boston Red Sox
DH David Ortiz was given Monday night off -- his first game off since being activated from the 15-day disabled list on July 25 -- after playing in 15 straight games. Manager Terry Francona said that it seemed like the right time to rest Ortiz, and there was some stiffness and soreness in the troublesome left wrist that shelved him for two months. "Yeah, I'll be in there (Tuesday)," said Ortiz, hitting .259 with a home run and 10 RBIs since being activated from the DL.

David Ortiz - DH - Boston Red Sox
DH David Ortiz is 3-for-28 (.107 batting average) with five walks and seven strikeouts since the Sox traded away Ramirez, who also served as the clean-up hitting protector for Big Papi in Boston's once-feared lineup. He has also scored only one run in the first seven games of August and has driven in three runs out of the No. 3 spot in the Sox batting order. It shouldn't be forgotten that Ortiz is still searching for the harmonious marriage between proper timing and the perfect swing, and both haven't immediately come back to the power hitting since returning to the lineup on July 25.

David Ortiz - DH - Boston Red Sox
DH David Ortiz reported to the Boston Herald that he felt a click in his left wrist following a swing in Monday's loss to the Kansas City Royals. The problem was in the same wrist that kept Ortiz out of Boston's lineup for nearly two months with a partially torn tendon sheath. Ortiz was back in the lineup Tuesday night, and doctors had previously advised the designated hitter that he might feel some discomfort from time to time over the last few months of the season. "It's all right," said Ortiz, who went 1-for-5 in the game and looked completely healthy. "I've got to deal with it the rest of the season. I'm gonna have good days and bad days."

David Ortiz - DH - Boston Red Sox
DH David Ortiz, not known for blazing speed on the basepaths, stole his first base of the season in the fifth inning of Sunday's win over the Athletics. It was Big Papi's first stolen base since September 2, 2007 against the Baltimore Orioles, and is further proof that his left knee is feeling better. One side benefit of the left wrist injury that sidelined Ortiz for nearly two months was that it gave the designated hitter a chance to continue rehabbing his surgically repaired knee.

David Ortiz - DH - Boston Red Sox
DH David Ortiz made his much-awaited return from the 15-day disabled list and recorded his first hit since May 31 when he singled off the lip of the infield in the fourth inning. Big Papi didn't report any problems with the left wrist following the game, and will loom large in the middle of Boston's lineup if OF Manny Ramirez misses any time with his sore knee. The Red Sox managed to cobble together a 26-19 record while Ortiz was on the 15-day disabled list and are 34-25 this season with Papi in the lineup.

David Ortiz - DH - Boston Red Sox
DH David Ortiz is expected to be activated Friday. OF Brandon Moss was optioned to Class AAA Pawtucket, presumably to clear space on the 25-man Sox roster for Ortiz. Ortiz hit .294 (5-for-17) with three homers, six RBIs, and five walkss in six games on rehab assignment with Pawtucket and Class AA Portland.

David Ortiz - DH - Boston Red Sox
DH David Ortiz went 0-for-1 with a walk his final minor league rehab start with Class AA Portland (Maine) on Wednesday night, and "Big Papi" is still on target to make a return to the big leagues on July 25. Ortiz took batting practice at an indoor cage prior to the game, and the left wrist that landed him on the 15-day disabled list on June 3 continues to be pain-free. While the Sox still rank among the AL in several offensive categories, the lineup is banking on a considerable offensive boost when Ortiz gets back up to speed.
