LHP/OF Adam Loewen was transferred from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list Tuesday afternoon to make space for OF Luis Montanez on the 40-man roster. Loewen, who has a fractured bone in his left elbow, will resume his career as an outfielder this fall.

The oft-injured pitcher said he would give up in the mound, and he hopes to return as an outfielder. The 24-year-old is sidelined with a stress fracture in his left elbow.

LHP Adam Loewen's status will remain in limbo until next week. The former first-round pick has missed two months this season, and is currently in his second stint on the disabled list with an elbow ailment. Loewen suffered a stress fracture of his left elbow last season, and required surgery -- an invasive procedure that included the insertion of a screw into the cracked bone.

LHP Adam Loewen will get a second opinion on his injured left elbow from Dr. James Andrews, The Baltimore Sun reported on its Web site. Loewen underwent a CT scan Monday, which reportedly showed the surgically repaired stress fracture had split where a screw was inserted last year. Loewen, who already had missed two months before re-injuring the elbow Sunday, was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday.

LHP Adam Loewen left Sunday's game with left elbow discomfort. It was Loewen's third appearance since being activated from the disabled list June 30. Loewen missed two months with elbow soreness this season, and missed the majority of 2007 with a stress fracture in the same elbow.

LHP Adam Loewen didn't fare well in his second relief outing of the season. The former first-round pick allowed three earned runs and three hits in the sixth inning, failing to record an out and picking up the loss. Loewen fell to 0-2 and threw just 10 pitches, with his ERA ballooning to 8.41.

LHP Adam Loewen scattered two hits and a walk in two innings of work out of the bullpen. In his first career relief appearance, Loewen picked up his first hold, striking out one on 25 pitches. Expect Loewen to pitch more as a middle reliever than as a fill-in left-handed specialist in place of injured LHP Jamie Walker.

Loewen was rehabbing his sore elbow and allowed just one earned run in 9 2/3 innings over nine games between Class A Frederick and Class AA Bowie. He'll assume the role of left-handed specialist in the Orioles bullpen.

LHP Adam Loewen threw another scoreless inning in a rehab stint at Class AA Bowie on Wednesday, striking out one batter in the seventh inning of a 9-7 win. Loewen, who has been out since April 25, has yet to allow an earned run with Bowie. He is scheduled to throw for Class AAA Norfolk on Saturday.

LHP Adam Loewen is making a smooth transition from starter to reliever in his rehab from elbow soreness. Loewen, 24, has been out of action since April 25. He threw one inning for Class AA Bowie in Sunday's loss, allowing an unearned run on three hits. He hasn't allowed an earned run in four appearances with the Baysox.
