Scott Linebrink - RP -
Chicago White Sox
RHP Scott Linebrink will now be given his eighth-inning set-up role back, after Guillen hasn't seen anyone else in the bullpen step up the last week. Linebrink was on the shelf for almost two months with inflammation in his right shoulder, but returned last week. Still, Guillen was reluctant to put him back in that role because of how many games he missed, but after watching Linebrink pitch well twice now, Guillen felt it was time.

RHP Scott Linebrink threw a bullpen session before Monday's double dip at Camden Yards, making it the fourth time the veteran has thrown off the mound in the last 10 days. The reliever has been on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in the right shoulder and has been on the shelf since July 23. The plan now is for him to pitch a simulated game. "Yeah, that's the next step. Start working in all the pitches and start seeing some hitters," Linebrink said. "I don't know if I'd say I'm feeling better. I think the ball coming out of my hand today was a little better. (Pitching coach Don Cooper) was encouraged by it."

RHP Scott Linebrink stretched his throwing program out to 150 feet on Friday, as his rehab from inflammation in the back of his shoulder continued. The veteran made about 70 throws from that distance, and again seemed optimistic. "We're definitely putting it through the ringer," said Linebrink. "It feels like the back is loosening up a bit. Now, it's a matter of getting everything working together because it feels kind of like soreness is in different areas. I guess it's a good sign because we're working to the end, getting everything firing again." The hope is to still have him back by the end of August but time is running out.

RHP Scott Linebrink was hoping to stretch out his throwing program, either Tuesday or Wednesday, progressing from 90 feet to 120 feet in his long-toss sessions. Linebrink, who has been on the disabled list since July 26 because of pain deep in his right shoulder, isn't expected to return to the Sox bullpen until the end of August.

RHP Scott Linebrink continued to get second opinions on his ailing right shoulder, and while the news remained good, there also remained no timetable for his return to a bullpen that needs him badly.
"It's frustrating at times," Linebrink told reporters, before Monday's four-game finale with Boston. "Obviously, if I had it my way, I'd be back throwing right now. It is taking a little bit longer than originally expected, but we're trying everything we can to get it healthy.
"It's not 100 percent by any means. We're battling through some stuff and there's some discomfort, but that's part of it. I just have to accept that and work through it."
The veteran has been on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to July 23 with what is being called right shoulder posterior inflammation. He received an MRI a few weeks back in Detroit just to ease his mind that it was only muscular, and saw another doctor since that told him the same thing.

RHP Scott Linebrink is now being expected back no sooner than the end of August. The weekend showed that his throwing program was progressing slower than expected, and Guillen has no choice but to piece together his relievers from game-to-game. "It's funny because some people don't understand the situation," Guillen said. "I've seen fans cursing me out because I had [D.J.] Carrasco [Friday] night in the game -- well, I don't have Linebrink."

RHP Scott Linebrink has continued his throwing program, as he tries to battle back from right shoulder posterior inflammation. But the hope to have the veteran throwing off the mound in the next three days is likely not going to happen. The best-case scenario for a return from the 15-day disabled list was mid-August, but that's also unlikely. "It's slow right now,"said Linebrink. "We're hoping to keep progressing, but again, we're trying to listen to the body - we don't want to let it get to a point where it's a step back. We want to keep moving forward."Linebrink also said that he would not put a timetable on a possible return, which is never good news.

RHP Scott Linebrink was given Monday off -- an off day for the team anyway -- after playing catch on consecutive days with the start of his throwing program. Linebrink, who is on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder posterior inflammation, will resume throwing on Tuesday, and the Sox hope to have him on the mound for a bullpen session by the end of the week.

RHP Scott Linebrink (right shoulder posterior inflammation) will start his throwing program this weekend, with the plan just a simple catch. If all that goes well, he will get on a regular throwing program that is still being determined. Linebrink went on the 15-day DL back on July 23, and said the other day that he didn't expect to return until mid-August. If all goes well this weekend, however, it could be a bit sooner than that. "I think we will just play it by ear,'' Linebrink said. "When I mentioned that the other day, that was kind of the play we have right now. But that was before we started doing anything. We will see how it goes as we are getting into it. But if things go great, we might be able to skip a step here or there. At the same time, we are going to make sure things are where they need to be.''

RHP Scott Linebrink (right shoulder posterior inflammation) has yet to pick up a baseball, and was targeting mid-August as his best-case scenario for a return. "When you talk about not touching a ball for seven days, that's half of (the time of the 15-day DL) right there,'' Linebrink said. "I don't think once we do start playing catch, I don't see a week later me being on the mound or in a game. It probably will be a couple of weeks, of a throwing program and a bullpen. They might want me to go on a rehab assignment. It all depends how I look when I start throwing pens. I'm hoping mid-August. We've already pretty much wasted a week in July. So, middle of August will be a good three weeks and hopefully it's not too much longer.'' RHP Octavio Dotel will stay in that eighth-inning set-up role until then.
