Matt Harrison - SP - Texas Rangers
LHP Matt Harrison, acquired from Atlanta in the Mark Teixeira trade, pitched seven innings in a 3-2 win over the Angels on Tuesday in his major league debut. Harrison, who only recently moved from Class AA to Class AAA, held first-place Los Angeles to a pair of runs on five hits. Though he only struck out one batter, he allowed only one walk.

David Ortiz - DH - Boston Red Sox
OF David Ortiz took batting practice again Tuesday, and manager Terry Francona indicated that he was pleased with the injured designated hitter's progress. Ortiz said that he had no soreness after hacking at 36 pitches in the cage Monday, and he again looked good while swinging the bat Tuesday. The pitching intensity will pick up as Ortiz continues to take batting practice this week, and indications are that Ortiz will embark on a minor league rehab assignment following the All-Star break. "We'll see how he feels at the end of the week and we'll go from there," Francona said.

Geovany Soto - C - Chicago Cubs
C Geovany Soto hit his 16th home run. That's the most by a National League rookie catcher since Mike Piazza hit 18 in 1993.

Alfonso Soriano - LF - Chicago Cubs
LF Alfonso Soriano has slowed down his rehab. Soriano hoped to hit off the tee Tuesday or hit "soft-toss" balls as he rehabs his broken left hand. He took batting practice in St. Louis Saturday but said his hand felt "weak." He said he's not sure when he'll take full BP again. Soriano plans to go to New York for the All-Star Game, but he won't play. He has been out since June 12 with a broken bone in his left hand. He said he still hopes he can play for the Cubs when play resumes after the break.

Dontrelle Willis - SP - Detroit Tigers
LHP Dontrelle Willis underwent an MRI Monday afternoon at the Detroit Medical Center, and the test disclosed the pitcher has patella tendinitis in his right knee. Willis was given a cortisone injection to reduce inflammation and fitted for a brace to provide additional support. He will return to Lakeland, Fla., later this week to resume his training program. The 26-year-old, who signed a three-year, $29 million extension after being traded to Detroit during the winter, has pitched just once since agreeing to go to the minors to work on regaining his control. Willis is 0-1 with a 10.32 ERA in the big leagues this season.

Adam Loewen - SP - Baltimore Orioles
LHP Adam Loewen will get a second opinion on his injured left elbow from Dr. James Andrews, The Baltimore Sun reported on its Web site. Loewen underwent a CT scan Monday, which reportedly showed the surgically repaired stress fracture had split where a screw was inserted last year. Loewen, who already had missed two months before re-injuring the elbow Sunday, was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday.

Alberto Castillo - C - Baltimore Orioles
LHP Alberto Castillo had a forgettable major league debut, allowing a hit and hitting a batter without recording an out in the seventh inning. He was summoned from Class AAA Norfolk on Tuesday, taking the place of LHP Adam Loewen (elbow) in the Orioles bullpen. Castillo, who hadn't pitched for an affiliated minor league team since 1998 before this year, was 3-1 with a 2.05 ERA in 19 games with Norfolk. Minor league left-handed hitters were just 4-for-40 against the 33-year-old Cuban this season.

CLE

LHP CC Sabathia made a successful Brewers debut, but it certainly wasn't easy. Admittedly battling his emotions with a sellout crowd cheering his every move, Sabathia battled through six innings before departing with a 4-3 lead. He uncharacteristically issued five walks but limited the damage when he absolutely had to. "I was trying to overthrow, do too much," said Sabathia, who allowed five hits and three runs (two earned). "I had a bunch of emotions going through my head. The fans brought electricity to the stadium. I got me a little too excited. That was the reason I was so erratic."

OF Eric Byrnes (left hamstring) is to undergo another MRI on Thursday, but the Diamondbacks were told that Byrnes is likely to miss the rest of the season whether he needs surgery or simply attempts to rehab the injury, GM Josh Byrnes said.

BOS

DH David Ortiz took his normal rounds of batting practice and blasted six balls out of Fenway while swinging at full strength. More importantly, the 32-year-old designated hitter didn't feel any significant pain in his left wrist while taking a step up in hitting intensity. "It feels good," said Ortiz. "I was trying to swing hard and make sure I don't feel (any pain). It was fine and I'm going to keep doing what the trainers tell me to do and keep working hard. "When I come back, I want to be ready to play and help this ball club," said Ortiz, who was in good spirits after the hitting session. "From what I see, I start swinging and get a little sore but then I get going more and more and I feel stronger as I go along."

ANA

CF Torii Hunter had his second multi-home run game of the season and 10th of his career. Hunter's first home run traveled an estimated 442 feet and landed in the club level in left field at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. It was only the 15th home run to reach that level in the 15-year history of the stadium. Hunter is only the third visiting player to reach the club level, joining Tampa Bay's Evan Longoria (June 6 of this year) and Oakland's Mark McGwire (July 5, 1997).

ANA

RF Vladimir Guerrero told reporters on Sunday that he would defend his Home Run Derby title during next week's All-Star Game events. But Guerrero said Monday that he had changed his mind and will not participate. "It's OK," he said. "Three days off." Guerrero has not been named an All-Star for only the second time in the past 10 seasons.

LA

RHP Hiroki Kuroda came tantalizingly close to becoming the 16th pitcher in modern history to throw a perfect game Monday. That bid was ruined when Atlanta's Mark Teixeira doubled to lead off the eighth, but in the end, Kuroda was perfectly happy with a one-hit shutout in which he retired 27 of 28 batters. "Obviously, baseball is a team effort," Kuroda said, with Kenji Nimura translating. "I wasn't the only one out there. As always, (catcher) Russell (Martin) set a good lead, and I just followed where he put his glove. I had great defensive support as well." Kuroda pitched the 36th complete-game one-hitter since the Dodgers moved to Los Angeles. It was the first since teammate Derek Lowe did it on Aug. 31, 2005 against the Chicago Cubs.

OF Jose Guillen had the day off. Guillen, who was selected as the Royals' player of the month in June, has been struggling at the plate lately. He had hit a puny .130 (6-for-36) with no extra-base hits and just four RBI in his last dozen games. Not only was Guillen 0-for-10 in the first three games at Tampa Bay, but he got into a clubhouse altercation with pitching coach Bob McClure before the Saturday loss. Guillen said he has been hampered by groin and hip soreness. "Hopefully the day off can basically get him on track," manager Trey Hillman said.

CLE

LHP C.C. Sabathia was acquired from Cleveland. He came at a steep price, including the Brewers' 2007 first-round draft pick, OF Matt LaPorta. The Brewers pulled an early trigger on the reigning Cy Young Award winner because they wanted him to make two starts before the All-Star break.
